On June 4 2018, Apple announced the new MacOS Mojave (10.14)  that had a new dynamic wallpaper, that changed based on the time in your location. Unfortunately, windows does not have this feature, but in this post, you will learn how to do it.

The wallpaper

1- Install WinDynamicDesktop.

This app is available from the Microsoft store, which you can get here, or go to start on your PC > type Microsoft Store > and search for WinDynamicDesktp in the store. This app is available from GitHub, but I recommend installing it from the Microsoft Store because some computers will block the GitHub downloaded version.

2- Select region.

This app is really simple to set up. Once installed, run the app from the start menu. A small window will open asking for your location. After click ok, and it will load for about less than a minute.

3- Select the wallpaper.

Then the main app will open, with 3 wallpaper options. Just select the desired one and that is it.
Later on to reopen the app, go to the taskbar, and click on the small arrow. Then click on the app icon and click select theme.

Set up light and dark theme.

If you want to go further, you can switch to light or dark theme based on the day.

1- Set up the dark theme.

First of all, let’s open task scheduler. After, go to Task Scheduler Library, and click on the view button at the top of the app > create a basic task.

2- Basic info.

After, a window will show up asking for a name and description. Name it Enable Dark Mode (optional), and hit next.

3- Triggers.

After, You will be shown up with different options. Select Daly and click next. Now you will be asked the time to trigger the task every day.
Leave the start date as it is but at the time, select the time to enable dark mode.

4-The action.

Now you will be asked to select a type of action, so just select run a program and hit next.
On the next window, under program/script, type reg. And on arguments, add the following:

add HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\Personalize /v AppsUseLightTheme /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Now click next.

5- Open properties box.

But before clicking finish, check the checkbox that says Open properties dialog when finished. Now click finish

5-Finishing up.

Now the properties box will open. Navigate to the Conditions tab, and uncheck the that says only run task when the computer is connected to AC power. Then navigate to the Settings and check run task as soon as possible after schedule time is missed. That’s it!

2- Set up the light theme.

Now, of course, you will have to set up the light theme task to enable it on daytime.
Just repeat all the steps above, but change the trigger time so it starts in the morning, and change the name to Enable Light theme. And at the action section, change the argument for the following:

add HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\Personalize /v AppsUseLightTheme /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

Apart from these two things, everything else is the same than the dark theme.

Now, run the tasks by right-clicking on then and clicking run.
If you are doing this at night, first run the light theme task and then the dark, and if doing this during the daytime, first run the night talk and then the light task.
